This page lists the most frequent questions about Technical Support. Most of our answers refer you to a related page that gives more information.
No problem! We archive all your purchase information. Please email your order number, first/last name, or email used to place the order to sales@digitalanarchy.com and we will resend both the serial number and download link to the current version of the installer.
If you already have your serial number and just need to reinstall the plugin, please notice all current and legacy versions are available here on the website under “Downloads”. Emailing us to redownload a plugin is only necessary if you are having problems with a download link.
Not properly seeing your plugins in the host apps is usually an easy thing to fix!
Compatibility issues, corrupted installations, and having multiple versions installed could be preventing the plugin from connecting to the host app and appearing as an option in your effects folder. Here’s an in-depth blog post on why your plugins are not showing and how to troubleshoot: https://digitalanarchy.com/blog/video-editing-plugins/heres-why-your-plugins-arent-showing-in-the-host-application/
If you are still having issues after following the step-by-step instructions on the blog post please email a screenshot of the issue, as well as the plugin and host app version you are using.
If you have already activated the plugin and still see the watermark on the footage please try applying it to a clip and changing any settings in the plugin slightly (e.g. changing the Threshold from 20 to 19). Host apps cache everything and this will force it to re-render, which makes the watermark go away.
You can also try clearing the cache manually by:
If clearing the cache does not work, then check this location:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Digital Anarchy\Receipts (Windows)/Users/Shared/Digital Anarchy (Mac).
There should be a “.receipts” file there.
If that file’s there, the plug-in is registered on this computer. In the host app, try clicking on a different frame in the sequence — the preview doesn’t always update after registering. If this license is in use on any other machines, that may be causing a license conflict that causes the watermark to appear.
If the watermark is still there, try deleting the effect from your clip and closing the host app, then deleting the “.receipts” file. Re-open the host app, make sure the watermark is gone now that Flicker Free is not applied, then apply Flicker Free and register it. If the license file was moved or edited at any point, it may need to be re-created by re-registering the plug-in.
For older versions of the plugins (Flicker Free 1.0, Beauty Box 4.0, etc) there should be a file called Licenses.txt in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Digital Anarchy. Delete this file instead.
If you are still having issues after that, please email us at cs@digitalanarchy.com.
If you have not yet entered your serial number here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to do that: https://digitalanarchy.com/support/install.html#faq7
This can occur in any host application and is usually related to your graphics card. However, before troubleshooting graphics card issues, make sure you have the latest version of the plugin installed by downloading it from our website.
Additionally, the crash might be due to an outdated graphics driver. You can update the driver for your specific GPU by checking out the relevant link:
If the updated plugin or the driver update doesn’t seem to be having any impact on the crashes, it’s likely the result of a graphics card issue. To confirm this, look for the ’UseGPU’ parameter at the bottom of the Beauty Box parameter list. Turn that off. This will force Beauty Box to ignore the video card (and GPU) and should resolve the problem (although it will render slower). Very old cards may not have enough memory to benefit from GPU acceleration.
If that doesn’t work or if it’s crashing before you can turn “Use GPU” off, you can also find the Digital Anarchy preferences folder (Mac: Macintosh HD>Users>Shared>Digital Anarchy, Windows: Users>Public>Public Documents>Digital Anarchy). In that, there’s a file called “DA_OpenCL_Devices.txt” and/or “DA_CUDA_Devices.txt”. Mac computers also have a “DA_Metal_Devices.txt” file. Open file(s) and change everything that says “Enabled=ON” to “Enabled=OFF”. This will also disable the GPU.
If you are still having problems after that, you might want to render out your clip with the Digital anarchy plugin effect first and then do all the color corrections and other effects work to the rendered clip.
If you have other filters applied to your clip, it’s best to apply our plugins as the first effect in the effect chain to avoid potential conflicts between effects or color correction.
Often, the render can be dramatically increased when video effects are applied to a clip before Flicker Free or Beauty Box, for example, does their correction.
The host app and type of filter will change the degree to which the render time will be increased. You can avoid this altogether by making sure the plugin is applied in your effect chain before any other filters that might change the way your footage appears.
For Flicker Free: Sometimes you may find it best to export the clip that needs to use Flicker Free first and then reimport the correct clip back into the timeline. Then, you can apply the video effects to the corrected clip and won’t have to worry about other effects conflicting with Flicker Free and running into potential errors.
Yes, our plugins use Metal, OpenCL, and CUDA for speed optimization. This is a way of accelerating rendering on Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA cards. On faster cards with enough RAM we are seeing real-time renders on HD footage and near-real time in 4K. If you are still using older versions of our plugins on an Intel Mac, it is not GPU-optimized when using Premiere 2021 or newer. This is because they only support OpenCL (and not Metal) and Premiere 2021 and newer no longer support OpenCL. This means anyone using an Intel Mac, the latest versions of Premiere and older plugin versions will experience long render times.
Multiple factors can increase or decrease your render times. Those factors are the length of your footage, the resolution of the footage, your computer’s hardware, which video application you are using, and whether you are running renders using CPU or GPU.
If your renders are significantly slower than expected, it is likely processing using the CPU. To ensure your Beauty Box renders are optimized, you need to have your GPU on/enabled. Go to:
There you will find either a DA_CUDA_Device.txt, DA_Metal_Devices.txt, or DA_OpenCL_Devices.txt file. Open the devices file and change everything that says “Enabled=Off” to “Enabled=On.” Once you’ve changed that, save the file and restart your video editing application. Now, the next time you render, you should see improvements.
If you are using Premiere, AME, or After Effects, you will also need to make sure you set your mercury renderer correctly for optimization. Set the mercury renderer in Project Settings > General, next to Renderer, to OpenCL, Metal, or CUDA. Not all of these options will be available. The options you will see are based on the graphics card you have on your computer.
Faster graphics cards and multiple cores will make a big difference as well.
This is due to having an older version of the plugin installed. Close FCP and uninstall the plugin, then download and install the latest version here.
