Transcriptive Rough Cutter

Transcriptive and PowerSearch are only supported in Adobe’s Premiere Pro.

Yes. The license you purchase is a one-time payment to give you access to Transcriptive for Premiere Pro panel. After paying for the license, you will pay for the Transcription as you go.

Transcriptive A.I. and Transcriptive Speechmatics are both priced at $0.08/min.

Transcriptive AI Premium is also available for $0.15 (pay-as-you-go) or $0.12 with pre-paid minutes. The Premium option offers high accuracy even when transcribing low-quality audio and increased transcription speed.

Prepaid minutes packages are available in bulk for $150 or $500. Users can also choose to pay as they go with a credit card for $0.15/min (Transcriptive AI Premium) or $0.08/min (Transcriptive AI).

No, but you do need to sign up for a Free Plan account on Transcriptive.com to transcribe. Transcriptive for Premiere Pro users are not required to pay monthly or annual subscriptions after paying for the Premiere Panel License (although there is a cost of .04-.08/minute for the A.I. transcripts).

Subscription plans were designed so users can take advantage of our Transcriptive web app. Choose the Free Plan if you don’t want a subscription to the web version of Transcriptive. You will need to enter a credit card to pay for the A.I. transcripts. If you have Transcriptive for Premiere, but also want “Producer” access to the Transcriptive web app, “Producer” accounts will be charged an $8/monthly subscription fee to your credit card. Users can downgrade their “Producer” account to a “Review Only” free account anytime.

Users who have not purchased Transcriptive for Premiere Pro can still take advantage of the Transcriptive Web App by signing up for a Producer account. Producer accounts for non-Premiere panel users cost $19/month or $160/year. To learn more about our Transcriptive web app please email cs@digitalanarchy.com.

It is unlikely your audio file will be used for training. However, you can change your Transcriptive settings to make sure no data is stored. In the Transcriptive preferences, if you select ‘Delete transcription jobs from server’ your data is deleted immediately. This will delete everything from the A.I. services and the Digital Anarchy servers.

To learn more about how the A.I. Speech-To-Text technology is trained and why the audio by itself is not that useful in improving accuracy please read this Blog Post: https://digitalanarchy.com/blog/video-editing-tutorial/a-i-speech-to-text-how-to-make-sure-your-data-isnt-being-used-for-training/

Make sure you are using Transcription AI as your speech engine. It is slightly more accurate than Speechmatics and it may work better for the audio you are transcribing. Also, background noise and unclear speaking can make it harder for the speech services to figure out what’s being said.

The less noise you have the better so make sure your talent is mic’d, speaks clearly and any background noise is minimized. Talent that has a heavy accent or is off-mic will get transcribed with less accuracy (sometimes significantly less) than talent that is mic’d and well-spoken. Regardless, Transcriptive AI will be about 2% more accurate, especially with recordings that have a lot of background noise. We highly recommend you use Transcriptive AI if you’re doing captions or subtitles.

It does work! Use Control+Z for Undo and Control+Shift+Z for Redo. A Premiere panel can’t use the regular Command+Z as a normal application would, unfortunately.

In order for Transcriptive to work, you have to click on the Transcriptive panel. If you just select your sequence and hit play, Transcriptive won’t do anything.

This is a limitation of Premiere. You have to select the Transcriptive panel and hit play from within Transcriptive otherwise Transcriptive won’t have any idea what Premiere is doing. Transcriptive is technically a separate app running within Premiere. It will communicate with Premiere but not vice versa. So control Premiere from within Transcriptive, it won’t work otherwise.

Occasionally our installer doesn’t do a good job of deleting everything before it installs. Sometimes this causes old files to hang around which causes the Transcriptive panel to not open. Deleting the files manually should fix that.

Delete anything that says PowerSearch, Transcriptive or Digital Anarchy. The files are in:

  • Mac: “Library\Application Support\Adobe\CEP\Extensions”
  • Windows: “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions”

You then should run the installer for the latest version of Transcriptive. They can be downloaded here for Windows and for Macintosh.

To create closed captions in Premiere, you need to export the transcript as SMPTE-TT and import that into Premiere. Premiere’s Caption panel will see that as 608 or 708 captions. Watch this Caption Formats video tutorial to learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OVSVTbtST0

The caption file starts when the first word is spoken. So if your talent doesn’t start speaking immediately, you don’t want the start of the caption file to be at 00:00. Move the start of the caption file to line up with where the talent starts speaking and everything will be in sync.

Although the batch transcribing is successful, Premiere does not refresh instantly for every clip’s speech analysis to show within the metadata panel. It can take some time before it shows. You can also reimport or replace the file in your project and the speech analysis will show instantly.

Sort of. You need to save the Word file as a Plain Text file. When you export out of Word, the ‘Allow Character Substitutions’ should be turned on. You’ll lose things like curly quotes but it means strange symbols that Word adds will also get removed.

Transcriptive does support the ‘fancy’ characters (like curly quotes), but if you export to a caption file, like SRT or SCC, those characters can make the files unusable. Transcriptive does try and replace the ‘fancy’ characters when it saves a caption file, but it’s more complicated than you’d think. It’s tough to account for every possible character and since we support languages other than English we can’t just scrub every character outside a certain range. So if you’re exporting out of Word, save a Plain Text file with Allow Character Substitutions turned ON.

These are for Transcriptive 2.x/3.x. If you’re still using 1.x, please check the manual.

Control + i: Set In Point in Source panel.

Control + o: Set Out Point in Source panel.

Control +, (comma): Insert video segment into an active sequence (this does the same thing as, (comma) in the Source panel).

Control + u: Clear In & Out Points (necessary for sharing).

Transcriptive for Premiere Pro offers a streamlined text-based editing workflow. Begin by transcribing your clips or sequences. Then, directly within the transcript, you can make edits by simply striking through the text corresponding to the video segments you wish to remove. This action instantly translates to cuts in your video timeline, creating a rough cut that mirrors your text edits. Additionally, you can scan your transcripts for key soundbites, set “In” and “Out” points directly within the text, and use shortcuts to quickly insert the selected segments into your sequence. This allows for precise, text-driven editing, enabling you to quickly assemble a rough cut by manipulating the transcript. You can also generate new transcripts based on your edited sequence, ensuring your transcript always reflects your latest edits.

Transcriptive Web App

No. Transcriptive.com Producer Monthly and Annual accounts give you the option to access the functionalities of our Premiere panel online. However, Transcriptive for Premiere Pro is a license-based plugin, costs $199, and will require a serial number in addition to your Transcriptive.com login credentials to become fully active. Buy a license!

The Transcriptive Web App and Premiere Pro panel are fully integrated solutions. If you own a license for the Premiere Panel, Transcriptive web app “Producer” Monthly and Annual accounts will charge an $8/monthly subscription fee to your credit card. Users can downgrade their “Producer” account to a “Review Only” free account anytime.

If you do not own Transcriptive for Premiere Pro, Producer accounts cost $19/month or $160/year.

Transcriptive.com “Producer Monthly” ($19/month) and “Producer Annual ($160/year”) subscriptions come with 30-minute transcription credits but will not cover transcription costs after the credit is used. Transcribing costs will apply in addition to the subscription fees.

After using the 30 minutes in free transcriptions that come with your account, Transcriptive will charge $0.08/min (pay as you go) or $0.04/min (pre-paid minutes package) even if you are still under a trial period. The total cost of your transcription will show on the transcribe window before you confirm you would like to proceed and transcribe the file.
