Eff-It! is a Premiere Pro panel that shows up in the under Premiere’s “Extensions” menu. It automatically bleeps out curse words in your video or audio. It analyzes a transcript, identifies flagged words, and creates a new, bleeped version of your sequence or clip.

First, load a sequence with a single video or audio track and obtain a transcript. Then, add the curse words you want to bleep to the Flagged Words List. Finally, press the Eff-It! button.

The Eff-It! button is located in two places: in the main navigation bar at the top of the panel and within the Flagged Words List dialog. It functions the same way in both locations.

No, Eff-It! does not affect your original sequence or clip. It creates a new, bleeped version in the Eff-It bin, leaving your original media untouched.

You might need to slightly adjust the start and end times of the beeps, as transcription timecodes aren’t always frame-accurate. Eff-It! provides a ‘Next Curse Word’ button to easily navigate between bleeped words for review.

Yes, after you download, install and open the panel you can try Eff-It! by clicking ‘Trial License’. You’ll need to create an Anarchy Cloud account by providing your name and email and validating your email address. This will give you a seven-day free trial and 30 minutes of free transcription time with the Transcriptive service.

The Transcriptive service is generally more accurate than free Adobe transcripts and may require less cleanup. You also receive 30 minutes of free transcription time with the trial.

Eff-It! only works with clips and single-track sequences (one video track and one audio track). It’s recommended to use Eff-It! as one of the first or last steps in your editing process.

No, Eff-It! does not currently support transitions or effects within the sequence it processes. For sequences with multiple clips, it should be a basic stringout without transitions or effects.

Eff-It! requires a transcript to identify which words to bleep and their exact location (timecode) in the audio or video.

There are a couple of ways: you can use the Transcriptive service (which has a cost after the initial 30 free minutes) or you can import a text or SRT file and use the free Alignment function for English language transcripts.

You need to export a text file from Premiere Pro’s Text panel and then import that text file into Eff-It!. In the import dialog, you can choose to automatically align the text or do it later using the Align button.

For languages other than English, you currently need to use the Transcriptive service.

Eff-It! might be able to support importing JSON files in the future. It’s recommended to contact the developers and let them know which service you’re using to help prioritize support.

You specify the words you want to bleep in the Flagged Words Dialog. You can access this dialog and add words to the list.

Eff-It! tries to automatically find common English curse words, and it usually works well. However, you may need to add additional words, especially for non-English languages.

Generally, you only need to enter the root word. For example, adding “shit” will typically flag variations like “bullshit” and “shitstorm.” However, because Eff-It! identifies words based on the root you provide, it can sometimes lead to unintended words being bleeped if they contain the same root. For instance, flagging “ass” might also bleep words like “bass” or “assign.”

By default, Eff-It! uses a standard 440Hz beep. Yes, you can choose between a lower-pitched (250Hz) and a higher-pitched (1kHz) beep. You also have the option to use your own custom sound files by clicking the ‘Add Sound File’ button.

By default, Eff-It! replaces the entire curse word with asterisks (e.g., *). There are two additional options: retaining the first letter (e.g., S) or keeping both the first and last letters (e.g., S**t). These caption options do not change the length of the bleep sound, which is determined by the transcription’s timing. The transcription is accurate enough to bleep the whole word but not precise enough to only bleep a part of it.
